Sean Quinlan could appeal against 12-day ban after Durham National fiasco
Rider Sean Quinlan, who mistakenly took Red Giant around the second-last fence in Sunday's Durham National at Sedgefield, could appeal against his 12-day ban for taking the wrong course.
The fence had been bypassed a circuit earlier but, with the dolls removed, it was deemed back in play on the final circuit. Red Giant, an 8-1 shot who was in front at the time but under pressure, was taken to the outside of the fence and was thus in effect out of the race.
Alan O'Keeffe, former rider and assistant to Red Giant's trainer Jennie Candlish, said on Monday: "Nothing has been decided yet, but Sean has spoken to a solicitor, Rory Mac Neice, and we'll decide once Rory's had a look at it."
