Zabeel Prince tops off outstanding week for Varian at Craven meeting

Roger Varian and Charlie Appleby shared the top trainer honours at the bet365 Craven meeting with four winners each, but it was Varian who grabbed the final-day feature, the Group 3 Earl of Sefton Stakes, with Zabeel Prince.

Al Basti Equiworld is sponsoring a leading trainer, jockey and owner competition across the two Newmarket tracks for the first time in 2019 and the 9-2 chance crowned a great week for Varian when powering out of the Dip to overhaul last year's winner Forest Ranger.

The Sheikh Mohammed Obaid-owned chestnut had prior experience of the track but not the 1m1f trip. However, he finished to such effect under Andrea Atzeni, you would be forgiven for thinking he would get further.
