'We've always thought a bit of him' - Hilary's Boy lands 22-1 win for Eyre

North Yorkshire-based trainer Les Eyre was left rejoicing after a successful tongue-tie paid dividends for Hilary's Boy, who took the 6f nursery handicap by a neck to kickstart a double on the day for Cam Hardie.

Sent off at 22-1 against a competitive field of 18 runners, the two-year-old got off the mark at the fourth attempt after finishing last in two of his previous starts.

Eyre's seventh winner of the year was a welcome relief for the trainer, who was denied a shot at success with Hilary's Boy following a tack malfunction in August.

Eyre said: "Last time we ran him at Catterick we had our brains on him but the tongue strap came off at the start and we had to withdraw him.

"Needless to say, the tongue strap stayed on today. We've always thought a bit of him but it's come as a nice surprise today."

Hardie completed his 65-1 double aboard the David Evans-trained favourite Manumission in the selling handicap.

Daniel Tudhope also landed a quickfire double as he guided the Juddmonte-owned Quilted to a first career victory in the feature 1m4f fillies' novice stakes.

The three-year-old daughter of Frankel had over six lengths to find against odds-on favourite Bartzella after the pair's first meeting at Goodwood in August, but the William Haggas-trained runner failed to land a blow and finished in third as Quilted swept to a comfortable three and a half length success.

Tudhope was quick to land the double, steering the David O'Meara-trained Golden Hind to a first win of the season in the 1m4f handicap.
