'We want better quality' - Morgan camp aiming high after equalling personal-best
Thursday: Leicester
Laura Morgan's ascent of the training ranks continued with a double, an achievement that matched last season's personal-best of 25 winners.
Radetzky March got things off to a fine start under Adam Wedge in the 2m4f novice handicap chase, while the Lewis Dobb-ridden Here We Have It landed the 2m handicap chase.
Morgan, whose father Kevin used to train, honed her talents under the tutelage of Black Caviar's trainer Peter Moody and jumps legend Jonjo O'Neill and is quietly carving a reputation as a capable operator.
Her brother Tom, a cog of the team at the sales, placing horses and also shoeing them as the yard's farrier, said: "We're thrilled to get to last season's tally. We didn't think we'd match the strike-rate as it was incredible last season, but we hoped numerically we'd get there, and you'd hope we'd pass it.
"We have around 37 horses and have built it up from zero. Last term felt a bit surreal as everything went so right, but we just want to break into the bracket of better quality.
"Laura had her first winner on ITV recently, which was nice, so we're getting there, but it just takes time. We've got great owners, but they're not big-hitters at the sales.
"The team we have at home are fantastic and a lot of hard work goes in – a lot more than from me!"
