'There's definitely a lot more to come' - El Caballo extends winning run
Saturday: Lingfield
Karl Burke made the prediction that El Caballo would turn out to be Group class after his third win in a row at Newcastle last month and the three-year-old continued on the right track by landing the Listed Coral Spring Cup Stakes here.
The Middleham trainer was not at the course to witness the rapidly improving colt extending his unbeaten record to four, but he would have been pleased with what he saw from Meydan as El Caballo comfortably dealt with the first-time step up in trip to 7f, making virtually all of the running under Sam James.
The rider, who had not sat on the winner on a racecourse since his maiden success at Carlisle last year, echoed the sentiments of Burke's Group prediction, saying: "I would agree to be honest. The last twice he's had to do it the hard way in front and I think he'll improve just getting a lead off something.
"He impressed me from the two to the one [furlong pole], he really quickened and stretched them and wasn't really doing a lot at the line. I think there's definitely a lot more to come from him."
Kingscote doubles up with Flyer
Richard Kingscote chased home the John Best and Karen Jewell-trained Red Flyer last time out at Kempton, but he was on board this time round to steer the four-year-old to back-to-back wins in the 1m4f handicap.
The victory completed a double on the day for Kingscote having ridden Jon Scargill's first winner of the year in Placated in division one of the Class 6 1m4f handicap. Also securing a first winner of 2022 was West Sussex trainer Daniel Steele with The Defiant successful in the 5f handicap under Joshua Bryan.
