A record of just one win from 19 starts over fences did not really do Thomas Crapper justice and the big Saturday handicap he has always threatened to capture came his way when he powered through conditions thought to be against him in the Greatwood Gold Cup.

The £50,000 William Hill-backed feature has been dominated by Paul Nicholls, but he could not net a ninth victory in the race as Vibrato Valtat and More Buck's were pulled up behind the 20-length winner, who gave rider Charlie Poste his first victory for 113 days.

"He's such a good horse I could never be frustrated with him, or any of my horses," said Dickin, who was saddling his 14th winner of the season, his best tally since the 2010-11 campaign.
