Who says you can't teach an old horse new tricks? Certainly no one told Favourite Treat, who on his 43rd career start, but first at six furlongs, ran out a comfortable winner of the claimer for trainer Ruth Carr and rider Jack Garritty.

Having plied his trade between seven furlongs and a mile since joining Carr from Mark Johnston in 2014, Favourite Treat’s current trainer thought this opportunity was too good to be true despite the alien trip – and so it proved.

“He was well in at the weights so I thought it was worth the risk dropping in trip and it’s paid off,” said Carr.
