Last year's Pertemps Final runner-up Barney Dwan got his chasing career well and truly underway with a taking success in the three-runner 2m4½f novices' chase against two useful rivals.

Fergal O'Brien's charge had clearly come on plenty for his chasing debut at Exeter and O'Brien said: "It was very soft at Exeter and probably soft enough out there today again but he's jumped superbly, which has pleased us."

He suggested that there was no rush, saying: "It's all about the spring and getting him an education in the meantime. We'll go home and have a look at what there is for him."
