It is not just Australian cricketers who can suffer the agony of seeing victory being taken away from them and still manage a smile.

Richard Laws and the enthusiastic members of Ownaracehorse Ltd were the Tim Paines in this situation, all ready to celebrate Amity Island ending his 15-race losing run as he passed the post a nose clear of Knightly Spirit in the 1m2f seller at Ripon.

However their four-year-old, one of three horses in the race trained by Ollie Pears, had given the runner-up a bump inside the final furlong and that was enough for the stewards to reverse the result.
