Lope Y Fernandez cruises to first Group success in Round Tower Stakes

Lope Y Fernandez delivered Aidan O'Brien a fourth consecutive Round Tower Stakes with a polished performance under Ryan Moore.

Lope Y Fernandez had clashed with 2,000 Guineas favourite Pinatubo on his previous two starts, finishing second at Royal Ascot and then third at Goodwood, and he took advantage of this easier task to land the Group 3 by a length and a half. Guildsman pipped the winner's stablemate Fort Myers for second by a short head.

Moore said: "He was a bit disappointing at Goodwood and maybe running downhill on quick ground didn't suit. The winner Pinatubo is very good but I don't think Lope Y Fernandez fired that day.
