Tuesday: Wolverhampton

Interference was again the hot topic of the day at Wolverhampton, with Laura Pearson picking up a two-day ban, but the impeded Jack Duern enjoyed more luck later in the day in producing a surprise winner at odds of 25-1.

The Scott Dixon-trained Coast beat the similarly unfancied
Gossamer Silk and Good Listener at 22-1 and 50-1 respectively, leading home a Tricast at odds of 24,242-1 in the second division of the 6f handicap.

Coast was recording a first win on her 16th start and the jockey said: "She can be very keen in her races, she's so awkward. It's the first time they've gone a good gallop and I've been able to sit and settle on her. She did it nicely, there's a lot more to come as she was a good filly at one stage."

The success, a first for Duern in July, came after he struggled for room on the inside rail aboard three-quarter-length third Country Charm in the opening 5f handicap, won by Charming Kid.

The second, Duke Of Firenze, edged left-handed and closed the door on Country Charm as the line approached, yet it was deemed accidental by the stewards. Pearson's careless riding ban instead came for an incident in the early stages, where her horse drifted and forced another to take a check.

Duern reflected: "I missed the break, went for a lucky run up the inside and it didn't quite work out. I was just a bit short of room, it was just unlucky."

Dixon enjoyed a double on the card when Rose Fandango landed the final race under 5lb claimer Jonathan Fisher.

Memorable day

South African jockey Collen Storey rode his first British winner on
Connemera Queen in the 7f handicap. The victory also completed a double for trainer John Butler.
