In-foal Avon Breeze part of up-and-down day for Whitaker

Making the most of in-foal mares is a well established angle but has seldom been more effectively executed than by trainer Richard Whitaker this year.

Virtually all of the local trainer's winners so far in 2017 have been in-foal mares, and the trend continued as Avon Breeze bounced back to form to win the 6f fillies' handicap.

Whitaker's son and assistant Simon said: "She's in foal to Equiano. We've had a few do well for being in foal, it just seems to relax them and she's obviously well-handicapped and come back to her best."
