Fresh from finishing fourth in the Legends race at Doncaster 24 hours previously, Richard Hughes was back donning his trainer’s hat and found the winner’s circle after Miss Laila stayed on dourly to clinch the spoils in the 7f juvenile fillies’ maiden.

Although former champion jockey Hughes, who hung up his riding boots over a year ago, was happy to return to the saddle as a one-off he insisted there was no chance of him considering a proper comeback.

He said: “It was a lot of fun and really enjoyable riding in the race as it was for a good cause and it was great to see some of the old faces, many of whom I had not seen for quite a while, but that’s all it was - my interest is in training now and the riding days are in the past.”
