Hughes keen to preserve rising star Villiers' claim until new turf season

Up-and-coming apprentice Angus Villiers is unlikely to have many more rides in public before the start of next year’s turf season after partnering Stay Classy to land the 7f fillies’ handicap at Lingfield.

Villliers has been one of the finds of the Flat racing year and lost his right to claim 7lb with a double at Wolverhampton on Tuesday evening, but his boss Richard Hughes is anxious to keep the youngster’s feet on the ground.

Hughes said: “I think Angus will have a little break now and then he will be off to America for a month or so in the new year to gain a bit of experience.
