'Happy day' - Williams salutes longstanding owners after Jaytee hits the target
Thursday: Taunton
Ian Williams paid tribute to his longstanding owners Jeff and Judy Tredwell after Jaytee struck late to land the 2m7f handicap chase.
The seven-year-old, who was bred by the Tredwells, stretched clear to beat the 7-2 favourite Larkbarrow Lad by four and a half lengths after taking the lead approaching the last under William Kennedy.
"It's a happy day all round," said Williams. "With the exception of Pat Kelly, my landlord for many years, Jeff and Judy are my longest serving owners and it's a great pleasure to train a winner for them."
Jaytee was scoring for the first time over fences, having finished second behind in a 2m6½f handicap chase at Leicester in January.
Tight finish
Molly Carew came home powerfully under Tom Scudamore to claim the 2m5½f mares' handicap chase by a neck from Jubilympics.
The ten-year-old, who was sent off 8-11 for trainer Neil Mulholland, made a bad mistake at the third-last but rallied before the final flight and stayed on best to strike inside the final strides.
Back in form
Don Alvaro recorded the opening leg of a quickfire double for Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden in the 2m3f handicap hurdle.
The six-year-old interfered with Justshortofabubble on the run to the line but the stewards felt he did not improve his placing as the runner-up did not lose any momentum when losing by a neck.
Nicholls and Cobden struck in the following race, the 2m3f novice hurdle, with Individualiste, who scored for the first time in Britain.
