Hammer Gun stuns rivals and his owner with 100-1 success

What should have been the stuff of dreams for owner Tony Flint turned into a missed opportunity as he watched his colours carried to a 100-1 success courtesy of Hammer Gun in the 7f handicap.

Flint revealed a wad of £20 notes from within his coat pocket after the race, but they were not his winnings, rather his stake that he decided against investing.

“Not even I could inspire myself to back him,” said the owner. “It’s one of those things. He’s been so disappointing but Derek Shaw [winning trainer] has been so patient and got him back.
