Putting a value on the Wood Ditton form is one of the spring's perennial guessing games, as the Newmarket one-off attracts blue-blooded newcomers from some of the best stables in the land, many of whom fail to amount to very much in the longer term.

Defeats for the fourth and fifth in the 24 hours before tenth-placed Dragon Moon took his chance in what looked a hot 6f novice did not augur well, but punters backed him as if defeat was out of the question.

Having gone off at 5-6 from a morning 7-2, the Richard Hannon-trained Super Saver colt duly did the business, albeit by just a head. In fairness, runner-up Crossing The Line had run in the Cheveley Park on her last start at two, and Dragon Moon was always holding on.
