Fugitives Drift registers runaway first success over hurdles at Huntingdon

Named after a landmark near the Rorke's Drift battlefield in South Africa, Fugitives Drift put his own name on the map when landing a stylish first win in division two of the 2m novice hurdle at Huntingdon.

The son of Yeats was trainer Nicky Henderson and jockey Nico de Boinville's only runner at the Cambridgeshire track, and the reason soon became apparent when he went clear on the run-in for a convincing win.

The 11-8 favourite had been fancied to make a winning start over hurdles on his previous start at Leicester but looked more the part this time around when slamming market rival Mickey Buckman.
