Final race abandoned after Parkes taken to hospital

Racing at Yarmouth ended unexpectedly early for the year yesterday with the final race of the season abandoned after jockey David Parkes was taken to hospital with a suspected broken ankle.

Parkes was unseated from Humour in the penultimate scheduled race at the track's last meeting of the year and was accompanied for x-rays by the racecourse doctor. With light failing at the track and insufficient medical cover, the decision was taken to call off the final contest.
