He may have been top trainer here eight times before but he’s still keen to make it nine – and Richard Fahey underlined the point with an opening-day treble.

William Haggas took the course title last season but his two strikes here were eclipsed by victories for George Bowen, Clubbable and Charming Kid.

Fahey struck with his first runner of the year at the track he values most as George Bowen hosed up by six lengths in the 6f handicap.
