Doc provides West a 66-1 tonic after torrid journey

The day ended somewhat better than it started for rookie Epsom-based trainer Adam West. Despite not arriving on course until the early hours of the morning after a breakdown on the M1, he sent out his first ever winner when Doc Sportello landed the 6f claimer at 66-1.

West, who trains the winner for his mother Janice, said: "I was head lad for Roger Teal who has been a huge influence on me as he is a man who does everything in the correct way, and I have also been assistant to Robert Mills. I've got 18 horses in training in my new yard just behind Loretta Lodge, but most of them are two-year-olds for next year.
