Dascombe drought ends as Flaming Rib lands first win in a month

Tom Dascombe ended a frustrating spell of 31 days without a winner when Flaming Rib defied top weight in the feature £25,000 6f handicap under apprentice Pierre-Louis Jamin.
Jamin, who had been on the two-year-old for wins at Thirsk and York, completed the hat-trick in style, making the running to win by three and a quarter lengths.
Dascombe, who had sent out 47 runners without success before the Michael Owen-owned colt won comfortably, was relieved to put a testing period behind him, saying: "We’ve had a very quiet spell but he’s absolutely bolted up today.
"He’s absolutely flying along and he’s improved with every race. I couldn’t be happier because we needed a bit of a break. We’ve had a bad run. Generally speaking we’ve had a fantastic year but things have gone a little bit messed up.
"To see him win a race like that, giving lumps of weight away in a race with reasonable prize-money and winning so easily, was lovely to see. It was an easy race to watch. He’s a proper horse."
Merciless Mujtaba
Shadwell three-year-old Mujtaba made no mistake when landing the 7½f novice stakes under Dane O’Neill for trainer William Haggas.
The 1-4 shot justified favouritism as he followed last month’s debut success at Chepstow with a comfortable length-and-a-quarter victory.
