Another Hayley Turner prize as Shergar Cup star steals show once again

Hayley Turner, who adores the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup like no other meeting, again stole the show at Ascot when being crowned top jockey.

The Rest of the World side was top team, but neither of Australia's Mark Zahra or Hong Kong ace Vincent Ho could make an impact in the final race - the Sprint won by Victory Day - which Turner finished second in, earning ten points to take her total to 40.

She had earlier won the Stayers on Eddystone Rock and the Classic on Sapa Inca as she repeated her success in the Alistair Haggis 'Silver Saddle' for the second year running.

Competing at her 13th Shergar Cup, Turner has won more points at the unique fixture than any other rider and was the headline maker once again.

She said: "I'm really chuffed. I can't believe it. This event means so much and it's a massive thrill so I'll enjoy it. It's great because all of my family here. It's great the trophy is for Alistair, who is no longer with us, but got me on board for this, which has helped my career."

Turner, who said she waited for the Shergar Cup like a kid waits for Christmas, captained the girls team of Jamie Kah and Nanako Fujita.

"It'll be great experience for them, even though they haven't had a winner," she added. "They've enjoyed it and learned a lot. They've ridden really well. It's been brilliant."

Zahra, who was making his Shergar Cup debut at the age of 37, finished second with 35 points.

He won the Challenge on Indianapolis, helping the Rest of the World outfit, which also included Japan's Yuga Kawada, enjoy a convincing success.

Ho, a champion apprentice and top operator in Hong Kong, also contributed to that, landing the mile on Power Of Darkness.

He was also making his debut at the event, as was Czech rider Filip Minarik, who finished level on 32 points with Ho after Stone Of Destiny's victory in the Dash.
