There is obviously the thrill of the unknown when an unexposed horse starts winning, but less is often said about the excitement as a once high-level performer starts to recover his form.

Bob Bradley now knows the feeling. Having tried for quite a few years, he belatedly got his first winner as an owner when Elysian Flyer, rated 105 in his juvenile days when with Richard Hannon, won the 5f handicap off 77 on his third start for Paul Midgley.

After being presented with the prize by Jackie Senior, the race sponsor who was celebrating what we will call a significant birthday, Bradley said: "I was first involved with a horse called Strategic Order, who never quite got home in front. I've been waiting a long time for this."
