Windsor Avenue looked a potentially smart prospect when running out an easy winner of the Alan Young Memorial Maiden Hurdle for trainer Brian Ellison.

A winner of two bumpers last season, the six-year-old, ridden by Brian Hughes, got off the mark over hurdles in smooth style, easing clear of his rivals in between the final two flights.

"We think a lot of him," Ellison said of the 2-7 favourite. "I think the only reason he got beaten last time at Carlisle was that they went too slow, but he's obviously improved for that first run anyway."
