The week continues to get better for Gloucestershire trainer Fergal O'Brien. After securing a third Grade 2 with Colin's Sister in the West Yorkshire Hurdle in a double at Wetherby on Saturday, Strong Glance announced himself as another smart prospect for a yard going from strength to strength.

In a bumper for newcomers that contained plenty of interesting pedigrees, Strong Glance, whose dam is a half-sister to Strong Flow, was confidently ridden by Alain Cawley and stormed home to beat joint-favourite Doctor Dex.

Third-placed Commanche Red had also been strong in the betting for a yard that has only had two bumper winners in the last five seasons, while Barley Hill showed plenty before cutting out the running – his evident inexperience proved his undoing.
