Alston hopeful of more from Boudica Bay as drop in trip works a treat

You never stop learning in racing, so the saying goes, and even with all of his years of experience, trainer Eric Alston can still find himself occasionally outfoxed by a horse.

Alston, 74, who has handled the likes of Group 1 winner Reverence and the popular Tedburrow during his career, admitted Boudica Bay had been running over the wrong trip prior to her victory in the 5f handicap and he expects plenty of improvement from her now.

He said: “I’m hoping she’ll go on from that. She’s probably been running over the wrong trip as we thought she wanted further as she’s by Rip Van Winkle, who won the Eclipse. Her dam was very fast and very good, so she seems to take more after her.”
