A big challenger to sprinting star Battaash emerged at Sandown on Sunday as last season's ace juvenile A'Ali bounced back to his best with a stylish success in the Coral Charge.

The Ed and Simon Crisford-trained three-year-old, who won three Group 2 races last season, struggled on his seasonal return on the all-weather at Newcastle but had conditions in his favour on Sunday afternoon.

Nestled in midfield on the far rail, he was switched to tackle the smooth-travelling Liberty Beach before hitting top gear and quickening smartly into the lead as they hit the line. Tinto stayed on to finish third.
