A sign of things to come? Buick and Appleby dominant ahead of 2,000 Guineas
Friday: Newmarket
William Buick continued his remarkable start to the season with a double on the opening day of the Guineas meeting at Newmarket.
After finishing second in the opening race, the jockey opened his account when scoring aboard Nations Pride in the Listed Newmarket Stakes and followed up in the King Charles Stakes with Noble Truth.
Buick, who has won ten Group races this year and will bid for his first jockeys' title this season, was not able to add to his account after odds-on favourite Yibir's second place in the Group 2 Betfair Exchange Jockey Club Stakes was followed up by defeats for Life Of Peace and Menai Bridge.
Nonetheless, the rider and Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby remain in top form ahead of a big weekend as they prepare to team up with favourite Native Trail in the first Classic of the season, the Qipco 2,000 Guineas on Saturday, and Wild Beauty in the fillies' equivalent on Sunday.
