A Plus Tard joins greats with 15-length Gold Cup triumph in fast time
A Plus Tard entered the realms of the greatest chasers of the Racing Post Ratings era in winning the Gold Cup by a 15-length margin.
The longest winning distance in a Gold Cup this century was by Kauto Star, who recorded an RPR of 185 when regaining the title by 13 lengths in 2009. That is the highest RPR for a Gold Cup winner since our ratings were introduced in the late 1980s.
What happened behind is an important consideration when putting such an impressive performance into context. Kauto Star beat Denman, who was defending champion and had recorded a figure of 184 when taking the 2008 Gold Cup.
