Reaction to Mac Swiney's Guineas win - plus a look at Sunday's Curragh card
The 2021 Flat season is well under way and it's full steam ahead to next month's Epsom Classics, the Cazoo Derby and Cazoo Oaks.
Market movers come thick and fast as the key Classic trials are run in Britain and Ireland, but big-race contenders can come from anywhere and it's easy to miss a potential dark horse. Classic Clues, our new series running every morning, has you covered.
Here's a recap of Saturday's action and how it's impacted the Classic betting, while we mark your card with key names to note today.
Racing round-up: Mac Swiney back in Derby picture
Mac Swiney emerged as a key Cazoo Derby contender with victory in a high-class running of the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas. He is bred to get further than a mile and stayed on strongly to the line to hold off Newmarket winner Poetic Flare, his stablemate.
Mac Swiney is no bigger than 15-2 for the Derby and he will bid to become the first horse to do the Irish Guineas-Epsom Derby double since Grundy in 1975.
Van Gogh finished third, three and a quarter lengths behind the Jim Bolger-trained pair, and he could also be Epsom bound. His price drifted to 16-1 (from 12) with bet365 following that defeat.

What they said
Una Manning, assistant to Jim Bolger, trainer of Mac Swiney
He had a bit of mucus at Leopardstown and didn't give a true account of himself. It was Jim's plan to run him here and have him ready for the Derby. He needed a run, so why not run him in the Irish Guineas? Traditionally it's been a very good trial for the Derby.
All eyes on the Curragh
It is the turn of the fillies to take centre stage with the Tattersalls 1,000 Guineas (3.15) being Sunday's feature race. It is unlikely to have too much impact on the Cazoo Oaks market with none of the key contenders entered for the Epsom Classic.
Aidan O'Brien's leading runners Joan Of Arc and Empress Josephine are entered in the Irish Oaks, however.
The Heider Family Stables Gallinule Stakes (2.05) could contain some Derby clues with likely favourite Taipan generally a 40-1 chance for Classic glory. The Jessica Harrington-trained runner was well beaten in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial last time.
