The John Gosden-trained Eshaasy has been backed to give apprentice George Rooke the biggest win of his career in the Moet & Chandon International Stakes (2.25) at Ascot.

Eshaasy, a narrow winner at Sandown earlier this month, has received significant support ahead of the 7f handicap and is now 6-1 (from 8) to land a third career success.

Rooke faced an independent disciplinary panel this week after failing to report his three winners in Jersey last year but is booked for three rides at Ascot this afternoon.

The going on the morning of the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes is good to firm, good in places with the threat of rain later today.

The nine-race card, which features the Group 1 King George (3.35), could be impacted by some heavier showers later. However, it has largely been a dry week in Berkshire, with the track watered on Monday and Wednesday.

Chris Stickels, clerk of the course, said: "We have only put on as much water that we have lost in evapotranspiration and it will be fast ground today if we don't get any rain before racing. I will probably be changing the going description to good to firm before racing if it does not rain.

"It has been dry and breezy since last Sunday and we are forecast another breezy day today.

All eyes will be on Enable, who will bid for a record third success in the 1m4f event, as she faces last year's Irish Derby winner Sovereign and Juddmonte International scorer Japan. Anthony Van Dyck was pulled out of the King George late on Friday evening after trainer Aidan O'Brien was not "100 per cent happy" with the blood analysis of last year's Derby winner.

There is also racing on ITV at York, where the going is good, good to firm in places after 1.4mm of rain fell on the Knavesmire over the last 24 hours.

Elarqam bids for a second triumph in the feature Group 2 York Stakes (2.40), facing the likes of Telecaster, Fox Chairman and Lord Glitters.
