Racing's restructure plan could assist the sport in future says Conservative MP

On the day racing's key stakeholders pitched a radical proposal to substantially curb the powers of the BHA in an all-day board meeting, Conservative MP Laurence Robertson said a move towards a "more corporate approach" to securing funding could be beneficial for the sport.

Robertson co-chairs the All Party Parliamentary Group on Racing and Bloodstock alongside Labour MP Conor McGinn and believes there could be greater clarity about who makes big decisions in the industry.

The proposed restructuring, revealed by the Racing Post on Monday and presented to the BHA board on Tuesday, involves tracks and horsemen adopting a more powerful position on governance and commercial decision-making, with the BHA pushed towards an increasingly regulatory role.
