Racing Post photographer Edward Whitaker nominated for two prestigious awards
Racing Post photographer Edward Whitaker has been nominated for two prestigious awards.
Whitaker has been shortlisted in the Photography Sport Action category of the 2020 AIPS Sport Media Awards alongside photographers from 17 other countries.
His shortlisted image captured the empty grandstands at Newmarket's Rowley Mile course while the 2,000 Guineas, won by Kameko, was taking place, just days after racing resumed in Britain behind closed doors following the sport's shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The two-time SJA Photographer of the Year and three-time Specialist Portfolio winner has also been shortlisted twice in one category at the SJA 2020 British Sports Journalism Awards.
He has two images in contention for the Away from the Action category, including his picture of the action passing two spectators perched on a wall at Goodwood. The other image in the running is of a very well hidden Harry Cobden.
Whitaker faces competition from Clive Mason (Getty Images), Marc Aspland (The Times), Matt McNulty (Manchester City FC) and Tom Jenkins (The Guardian).
The results of the SJA British Sports Journalism Awards will be announced at a virtual ceremony taking place on March 15.
Whitaker has been a frequent winner at the Horserace Writers' & Photographers' Association Derby Awards, winning Photographer of the Year nine times.
