Worlds collide in the hunt for future champions at Newmarket and Chepstow
For a few glorious weeks in autumn and then again in spring, the Flat and jumping codes share the limelight, and the start of Chepstow's two-day season-opener coinciding with Future Champions weekend at Newmarket is arguably just about the perfect blend.
Both fixtures are about looking forward, although in the case of Newmarket, the stars who emerge in the next two days are about to leave the stage for the next five months, Classic dreams flickering like candlelight in the depths of a British and Irish winter.
A year ago Inspiral stamped her authority as Europe's champion juvenile filly in the bet365 Fillies' Mile (3.35 ITV4/RUK) and her John and Thady Gosden-trained stablemate Commissioning will bid to make the same impression today. She will certainly need to put on a show if she is to match the dazzling displays put on by Blue Rose Cen in the Prix Marcel Boussac and Tahiyra in the Moyglare Stakes.
