Plenty of punters baulk at the thought of backing horses at odds shorter than about 2-1. Given the forecast prices for the Clarence House Chase has two of the five runners trading at skinnier prices (10-1 bar), they might be tempted to skip the race as a betting medium. They shouldn't.

The perfect race to bet in is one in which the candidates can be assessed under conditions as close as possible to the ones they are now facing. That applies strongly to the highly anticipated rematch between Defi Du Seuil and Un De Sceaux, who served up the race of the season so far at Sandown in last month's Tingle Creek.

We have the benefit of having seen Defi Du Seuil and Un De Sceaux sparring on soft ground, over a stiff, right-handed course. From those clues, it should not be hard to form an opinion on the rematch.
