What's on TV and where to watch the action

Flat racing does not come better than this as on Saturday the first Classic of the season, the Qipco 2,000 Guineas, takes place at Newmarket (3.35).

There are any number of fascinating strands to this race. Will Churchill live up to his huge expectations of flop like War Command and Air Force Blue? Can Eminent become the first Classic winner for Frankel or will French maestro Andre Fabre strike with Al Wukair?

The result is sure to have ramifications for the Investec Derby market as well as the Flat season hits full stride. The action will unfold live in front of the ITV and Racing UK cameras.

What else is there to watch?

While the 2,000 Guineas is the undoubted highlight, the supporting card from Newmarket also offers plenty of top-class action.

Chief among them is the Longholes Palace House Stakes (2.20). Goldream won it in 2015 before winning the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and Profitable did the same double last year.

The Dunaden Jockey Club Stakes (2.55) lacks the runners of the Palace House Stakes, but there will be few horses on show as good as favourite Seventh Heaven.

Anything worthwhile away from Newmarket?

Absolutely. Goodwood leads the way with two races on ITV. Ajman Princess, winner of a maiden on the all-weather at 1-20 last time, is back up in grade and favourite for the Listed Betfred TV EBF Stallions Daisy Warwick Stakes (2.05).

She is the mount of Fran Berry, who also rides the likely favourite Zwayyan in the Betfred ‘Treble Odds On Lucky15s’ Handicap (2.40). As ever with these big-field handicaps, it is sure to be a competitive contest.

And don't forget...

Classic action isn’t restricted to Newmarket. The Kentucky Derby takes place at Churchill Downs (11.46pm, ATR) with Always Dreaming heading the market. Godolphin’s Thunder Snow, winner of the UAE 2,000 Guineas and Derby, will be aiming to bring the race back to Europe.
