Wahoo looks another Michael Dods sprinter to follow

Michael Dods is a dab hand with sprinters and he looks to have another highly progressive one in Wahoo, who bolted up on his first start since being gelded at Doncaster last month.

Making all that day, he quickened up smartly over a furlong out and came home two and three-quarter lengths clear of Kyllachy Dragon.

That was on soft ground, so he has to prove he can handle much livelier terrain just as well, but he appeals strongly as one to follow.

Dods said: “He won nicely on bad ground at Doncaster. I wouldn’t want it to get too firm at Newmarket. He matured over the winter and is growing up. He's an improving horse.”

Showmethedough on recovery mission

Showmethedough embarks upon something of a recovery mission after failing to land some decent bets at Chester last time.

Sent off 3-1 favourite under Paul Hanagan for a 5f handicap won by Spoof, the three-year-old, who sports the grey and yellow starred colours of Marwan Koukash, could never get into a challenging position and finished only sixth.

His trainer Richard Fahey said: “I thought he would run well at Chester but he just couldn’t cope with five furlongs round there.

“He had been working really well before that – he went off favourite and we thought he would win.

“The step up to six furlongs will suit and he's capable of going close. He may eventually be a seven-furlong horse, but he’ll have learned a lot from Chester.”

Fahey is also represented by Lucky Lucky Man, the mount of Paddy Mathers.

“I don’t think he’s thrown in off 82, but we’ll give him a spin and see what happens,” the trainer said.

We’re reverting to shorter trips. We aimed for a mile when we took him to Dubai but he didn’t stay ten furlongs at Newmarket last time. He ran well in Dubai over seven furlongs, and we’ll see here if we’re taking the right route. He shouldn’t mind the ground.

He’s in good form and has been working well. He finally got his head in front last time at Wolverhampton, and Ben Curtis, who has ridden him several times, thinks the step up to six furlongs will suit. He's well worth his chance at the bottom of the weights with David Egan’s valuable 3lb claim.
