Britain was basking in glorious summer-like sunshine this week, yet despite the fine conditions there is no mistaking it is autumn and that means there is serious business to be done on the racecourse. And, besides, there is a Hurricane coming.

Charlie Appleby could be forgiven for still wanting it to be high summer, given the exploits of Adayar in winning him and Godolphin a second Derby before going on to capture the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

But, of course, Adayar was not the only Classic star to emerge from Moulton Paddocks during the summer, with Hurricane Lane taking both the Irish Derby and the Grand Prix de Paris, and he is now sweeping into Doncaster seeking to capture the season’s final Classic, the Cazoo St Leger.
