'Fakir D'Oudairies could have many challengers - but stamina will be pivotal'

The Melling Chase is used to fluctuating standards as any end-of-season Grade 1 over an intermediate trip should be. It hosted two of the best performances of the 2010s when visited by Sprinter Sacre in 2013 and future Gold Cup winner Don Cossack in 2015, but in other years it was winnable enough to be taken by God's Own and Boston Bob.

The 2m4f division is not exactly in a fallow period, it is just highly dependent on Allaho. In his absence this looks a below-average running. But the upside to weak Grade 1s is that they often make appealing betting races.
