'She has a lot of speed' - trainer quotes for the key races at Musselburgh
Star Of Lady M aims to become the season's most prolific two-year-old outright as she targets a fourth victory when lining up in the 5f nursery (4.10) at Musselburgh.
The David O'Meara-trained filly has recorded wins at Redcar, Ripon and Beverley – the same number as the likes of leading juveniles Meditate, Little Big Bear and Persian Force – and although she found Royal Ascot too stern a challenge last month, she drops down in class for her nursery debut against just three rivals.
Allocated an opening mark of 86, Star Of Lady M has to give away 9lb and more to her rivals, but O'Meara is confident the track will suit.
"She had a good start to the season and then she won the Hilary Needler," said O'Meara. "Chester didn't go very well before that as she hung right that day, and she did the same at Ascot.
"Musselburgh is pretty straight, bar the little bit of a dog-leg left, and I think she'll be fine. She's got a lot of speed."
Two of her rivals clashed in a seller over course and distance last month after which the winner Explicit was bought back in for £26,000 by Charlie and Mark Johnston, and neck runner-up Cuban Rock was claimed for £15,000 by Jim Goldie.
Cuban Rock makes his third start for Goldie after a couple of disappointing efforts since.
"He goes against the Johnston horse again and it'll be interesting to see how he compares to him," said Goldie. "He's a breeze-up horse who's been geed up and we're trying to apply the brakes a bit. He probably ran away at Carlisle, which wasn't clever, and the ground was slippery last time and he lost his action a bit.
"We're happy with him at home and he has good form at Musselburgh."
Goldie is well represented on the rest of the card, including in the 5f handicap (4.45) with Primo's Comet, who suffered interference from the winner when a neck second last time, and fellow course scorer Tanasoq.
"Primo's Comet loves the course and I'd imagine he's the one to beat," said Goldie. "He was unlucky at Doncaster and seems grand.
"Tanasoq produced his best performance when winning a conditions race here. He doesn't win often, but the track suits him and he should run well."
