Betfair Supports Racing Welfare Palace House Stakes (Group 3), 5f

The girls have been to the fore in this contest over the past three years with Marsha and then Mabs Cross (twice) taking the prize. Shades Of Blue, Hareem Queen and Queens Gift will be aiming to add to that record.

2.05 Newcastle
Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap, 7f

John Gosden is always a trainer to note at Newcastle, as he highlighted again this week with the runaway victory of Investec Oaks candidate Frankly Darling. Daarik, who was second in a Listed contest on his last visit to this course, makes his handicap debut here for the champion trainer.

Betfair Dahlia Stakes (Group 2), 1m2f

You think of this race and you think of Sir Michael Stoute, who has captured this event six times, most recently with Bragging in 2015. He runs one-time Oaks hopeful Queen Power, but she faces tough opposition in the shape of Terebellum and Magic Lily.

2.40 Newcastle
Betway Sagaro Stakes (Group 3), 2m½f

The last time Withhold came to Newcastle he destroyed the opposition in the Northumberland Plate, and a repeat of that effort in first-time blinkers will put him right in the mix.

Betfair Exchange Free Bet Streak Newmarket Stakes (Listed), 1m2f

Waldkonig is the main attraction in this contest. Not only is he the half-brother to last year’s Arc winner Waldgeist, but he produced a scintillating performance to win on debut at Wolverhampton. The Investec Derby could potentially be next after this.

3.15 Newcastle
Betway Heed Your Hunch Handicap, 1m

If things had been different, Palace Pier would be lining up at Newmarket for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas rather than in a 0-100 handicap at Newcastle. Given he was third favourite for the Classic, a big performance is expected of the unbeaten Kingman colt.

Qipco 2,000 Guineas (Group 1), 1m

D-Day has finally arrived for Pinatubo. The highest-rated European juvenile since Celtic Swing 26 years ago and the most exciting three-year-old since Frankel. Connections will be hoping he is able to emulate the last-named star by landing the Classic and take his unbeaten record to seven.
