Ballyandy will always hold a special place in Sam Twiston-Davies’s heart.

During a magnificent career, Ballyandy has taken the jockey into the Cheltenham Festival winner’s enclosure, contested the 2020 Champion Hurdle won by Epatante and landed the Haydock Champion Hurdle Trial run in honour of The New One, a horse who gave Twiston-Davies and his father Nigel many magical moments.

While Ballyandy never quite lived up to expectations over fences, he goes into Sandown’s £100,000 Unibet Veterans’ Handicap Chase Final (3.00) with a live chance off an 8lb lower mark than his current hurdle rating.
