Quirky Tectonic set to bring up the century at Musselburgh
Tectonic takes his place on the racecourse for the 100th time on Monday, but quite what he produces will ultimately be up to him.
The eight-year-old contests the 2m amateur riders' handicap (5.25) at Musselburgh for trainer Keith Dalgleish, who has overseen 87 of Tectonic's 99 runs to date.
He said on Sunday: "He’s a real stable favourite and a bit of a character. He’s been here for such a long time that he’s part of the furniture. He has bags of ability and he chooses to use it as and when it suits him."
Bought for 140,000gns as a yearling, Tectonic passed through the hands of Sir Michael Stoute, Brian Meehan, Chris Dwyer and Iain Jardine before reaching Dalgleish in 2013.
Since then he has won six races for the trainer and owner Lisa Ogilvie, and made his debut over hurdles at Kelso this month.
Dalgleish is hoping the hurdles outing will have helped Tectonic, and said: "Touch wood he’s always been a very sound horse and he has a few options now we have sent him over hurdles as well.
"Hopefully having run over hurdles will have helped rejuvenate him, and, if so, I hope he can run well."
