Nottingham and Yarmouth get all-clear but Uttoxeter and Haydock are washed out
There was mixed news following a busy morning of inspections on Thursday with afternoon fixtures at Nottingham and Yarmouth getting the all-clear and evening cards at Uttoxeter and Haydock being cancelled.
The prolonged wet weather threatened major disruption to the fixture list but Nottingham (heavy, soft in places) and Yarmouth (heavy) were given the go-ahead to join Newbury and Leopardstown in staging meetings.
The heavy rain has had a major impact on the evening action, however, with Uttoxeter and Haydock forced to cancel due to waterlogging.
Haydock tweeted: "Following a precautionary inspection this morning unfortunately today’s racing has been abandoned. This is due to a further 10mm of rain overnight resulting in a waterlogged track, with further rain forecast."
Uttoxeter tweeted: "Racing Abandoned. 100mm of rain in the last 6 days. Large areas of standing water and forecast a further 10-15mm through today."
Leopardstown is on firmer ground for action this evening with a Group 3 featuring that old favourite Gordon Lord Byron trying to win at the age of 11 against an eight-year-old market leader in Flight Risk.
Newbury has a younger set with the feature fillies Listed race sure to garner interest as it was won last year by Sea Of Class, who promptly went on to win the Irish and Yorkshire Oaks before an unlucky second in the Arc at Longchamp.
Regarding future racing fixtures under threat from the weather, Leicester will inspect at 2pm on Friday for the Saturday evening meeting as the ground is waterlogged in places.
The testing conditions have led to a flood of non-runners for Thursday's meetings. Those taken out by 10.30am are listed below (reason going unless stated).
