Grand National festival: ITV Racing tips
Our Spotlight experts select their best bets for day two of the Grand National festival at Aintree
2.20 Aintree
Betway Top Novices' Hurdle (Grade 1), 2m½f
Time will probably prove that Jonbon getting thumped by stablemate Constitution Hill in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle was no disgrace and Nicky Henderson's previous five winners of this race were also beaten in the Cheltenham Festival opener.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: JONBON
No match for Constitution Hill in the Supreme but remains of major interest; respected
2.55 Aintree
Betway Mildmay Novices' Chase (Grade 1), 3m1f
It is firmly a case of quality over quantity as L'Homme Presse – mentioned as a possible Gold Cup contender after his impressive festival strike – lines up in a mouth-watering showdown with Ahoy Senor, Bravemansgame and Fury Road.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: BRAVEMANSGAME
Has looked a complete natural over fences; Grade 1 winner at Kempton; strongly respected
Paul Kealy's Friday banker at Aintree
3.30 Aintree
Marsh Chase (Grade 1), 2m4f
Better known as the Melling Chase, repeat winners in the day two feature are nothing new and it is easy to see why the fresh Fakir D'Oudairies, who missed the festival, could be the name on plenty of people's lips after his success 12 months ago. Game Spirit 1-2 Funambule Sivola are Sceau Royal pose the biggest threats.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: HITMAN
Quite interesting back up in distance (still unexposed at 2m4f)
Randox Topham Handicap Chase (Grade 3), 2m5f
Tom Bellamy, Emma Lavelle and part-owner Tim Syder will be hoping for big-race glory in the Grand National with Eclair Surf on Saturday, but they have claims over the famous fences on Friday with last-time-out Kempton winner Killer Clown. Kim Muir second Mister Coffey and Sefton runner-up Senior Citizen will also feature.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: MAC TOTTIE
Could easily revive back here and his trainer has won this four times before
4.40 Aintree
Cavani Menswear Sefton Novices' Hurdle (Grade 1), 3m½f
Duke Of Bronte was once a 100-1 winner at Newbury in a mile maiden and will be nothing like that price having struck in easy fashion at Doncaster five weeks ago, while the stamina in his pedigree offers hope he will relish the trip against last-time winners Skytastic, Banbridge and Gelino Bello.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: SKYTASTIC
Unbeaten and promising; showed a good attitude at Ascot last time; attractive profile
