'It's all systems go' - Bryony Frost back in action on the Flat
Sunday: 1.50 GoodwoodWynne Tufnell Alderbrook Handicap (For Professional Jump Jockeys) | 2m | 3yo+ | RTV
Bryony Frost returns to the saddle for the first time in six months, but on the Flat rather than over jumps, when she lines up alongside 15 of her colleagues in the Wynne Tufnell Alderbrook Handicap for jump jockeys at Goodwood.
Frost, 27, has not ridden in Britain since April 7 after fracturing a vertebra in her back in a fall from Thyme White in the Red Rum Handicap Chase on day one of Aintree's Grand National meeting.
As well as taking time off to recover from the injury to her back, a spokesman for Frost said in April that she would be using the time as an "opportunity to address her shoulder issue" too.
Frost is rarely seen on the Flat, with the jockey not having landed a victory in ten rides. She last partnered a horse in a Flat race when fourth on Ginger Jam in the Jump Jockeys Nunthorpe Handicap at York in July last year.
The jumps star had been due to ride at Huntingdon on Tuesday before the meeting was called off after two races as a result of unsafe ground. Instead she returns to action on the Amanda Perrett-trained Zikany in the 2m handicap.
She said: "It's all systems go and I'm really looking forward to getting back racing again."
Zikany and Frost will face Tralee Hills, who finished third to Polish in the race last year when it returned after a two-year hiatus and is back this time with Nico de Boinville booked for the ride again.
All 16 jockeys in this year's race are seeking to win it for the first time, with the likes of Jason Maguire, Wayne Hutchinson and Nick Scholfield having landed it in the past.
Frost looks likely to have her first rides back over jumps next week, as she is provisionally booked for mounts at Huntingdon on Tuesday and at Fakenham on Friday.
