It’s been hotter in some parts of Britain this week than the Caribbean, and temperatures for day two of Goodwood’s popular August bank holiday meeting are once again expected to nudge 30C.

Sir Michael Stoute, who was knighted in 1998 for services to tourism in Barbados, provides two of the most fascinating equine contestants on a busy day which features five other British turf meetings and his stable jockey Ryan Moore in action for the first weekend since Glorious Goodwood.

Saturday’s big race, the Group 2 Doom Bar Celebration Mile, has often been won by a Stoute horse, and the Newmarket maestro will be bidding for a remarkable ninth win when likely warm favourite Thikriyaat canters to post just before 4.30.
