Since its inception in 1991 this race – structured with weights reflecting sale price at public auction – has always provided a captivating cavalry charge up the Newbury straight, and some very good two-year-olds, such as Paris House (1991), Lyric Fantasy (1992) and Tiggy Wiggy (2014), have starred in it.
Richard Fahey has taken a particular liking to the race, having won it twice in the last three years with Lathom (2015) and Peniaphobia (2013). He has seven entries this time, with Six Strings, runner-up at Newcastle on his debut, potentially the best of them.
