Expert analysis and trainer insight for a competitive sprint handicap at Bath
bath.co.uk Handicap | 5½f | 3yo+ | Sky
Chil Chil returned from wind surgery a different filly last summer and won three of her next four starts – all over 6f – in the style of a potential Listed-class performer.
This strong traveller produced a career-best on her final start at Newmarket when quickening in fine fashion in the final 100 yards to beat another prolific scorer in Gale Force Maya by a length.
Gale Force Maya had landed four handicaps in 2019 and it looked strong form at the time.
Chil Chil hasn’t run since and the slight drop in trip won’t necessarily be in her favour. Fast ground is no inconvenience, though, and she resumes here off a mark of 85.
This looks a good starting point for this well-bred filly en route to capturing some valuable black type in the months ahead.
Tin Hat, fresh from two near-misses at Newmarket last month, has race fitness firmly on his side. However, he is now 4lb higher for two defeats, and has little margin for error.
Corinthia Knight carries a 5lb penalty for a recent course-and-distance success in which he beat Big Lachie by a neck.
He is one of only three runners to boast winning form at the track – the others are Amplify and Red Alert – so we know he’ll handle the lightning-fast conditions.
Motagally has soared in the weights since proving too well handicapped for Pour La Victoire at Brighton last September.
Chil Chil might have the greater scope off her current mark.

What they say
Simon Bridge, co-founder of Ontoawinner, owners of Corinthia Knight
We're taking off the 5lb penalty he got for winning last week with a good young apprentice. We're not ideally drawn but if he's quick away there's no reason he can't win again.
Jamie Osborne, trainer of Dream Today
He's creeping down the weights and hopefully this could be the start of arresting the decline. The ground might be a bit lively.
Alastair Donald, racing manager to King Power, owners of Chil Chil
She produced some good performances after a wind operation last year, showing a very good turn of foot at Newmarket. She's taken a little bit of time to get ready this year but we're looking forward to seeing her run and hope she can continue to progress.
Eve Johnson Houghton, trainer of Tin Hat
He loves Brighton so it's devastating it's not open. He should be fine on the ground and I hope he can get his head back in front.
Tony Carroll, trainer of Red Alert
He loves the track and likes the ground. He ran reasonably well at Newbury but he wouldn't be well handicapped which is why we're taking 5lb off his back.
